"Really not that good!"

I don't think I was being unfair with my score. Madden 99 isn't a very good game. For example, the dives that you make are absolutely pathetic. They fall on their faces. There is only one juke button, so you have to hope you'll go the direction you want to go. I can't believe they wasted R for lateraling it. This button is easy to reach, and could've been used much better. But, the play selection is easy to understand. But, once again, you can only have 3 audibles. This frustrated me, as I wanted to have more then 3 plays that I could switch to in action.

I'm glad they used Z as the juke, but once again, another game where L and Z do the same thing. They should be used differently, such as L jukes to the right and Z jukes to the left. But, instead, you juke randomly to the right and to the left. That is incredibly annoying. For example, you could've just escaped on a run that took you close to the right out of bounds line. There is one defender coming towards you, and with a simple juke to the left, you have an easy touchdown. But, instead, when you juke, you juke to the right, which puts you out of bounds. That is annoying.

I will now move on to the aspects of the game.

Controls: 6/10

R is for lateraling. That drives me crazy. R is used for many good things in video games, and they completely trash it by making it the lateral button. Also, you cannot decide which direction you juke. The game decides for you. So you could be losing yardage instead of gaining yardage. But, A was a good power run button, B was a good dive button, and I liked Left C and Right C being the two stiff-arms. But, the controls weren't very good, and they took about 1 1/2 points off the Overall score.

Audio/Music/Announcer: 4/10

The music gets so annoying! At least there are some grunts when you get tackled, but, this game is supposed to have play-by-play announcing! More like two commentators that hardly ever speak! It's horrible! And the music! ARRRRRGH! It gets SO repetitive, it's insane! Pretty bad. This took off 2 points from the Overall score.

Graphics: 7/10

The graphics are pretty good, but the reason I took off 3
points is because of the glitches. For example, refs can walk through the post of the goalpost, you can too, you can run through the pylons, and you can run through people. Other then that, the graphics were great! 1/2 point taken off.

Gameplay: 10/10

I can't see anything wrong with the gameplay! You can choose from 1 to 15 minute length quarters, the game is fun, and well, it's cool!

Overall: 6/10

This just isn't that good of a game! EA Sports did much better with Madden 2001.

Thank you.
