ballad of false hope (Unknown) 23rd Mar 2013 04:48"A fun little game for the C64."
Introduction:
Catasrophes is an old game, probably older than most of the people reading this review. This game came out in 1984, and was the first helicopter construction game iirc, anyway on to the review.
Gameplay: 6/10
This game is fairly easy. You are a red helicopter, and what you are trying to do is construct a building faster than the other foreman in his green chopper. Natural disasters will make your life difficult, as they tear your precious building apart, and you will have to rebuild. On the last note building your building well will result in gaining points, building the building badly will result in you losing points. For each block you place you gain 100 points, and for each story you gain 500, but for misplacing blocks you lose thirty points.
Story: 3/10
If you can call it that, but in all seriousness there is a story a very small story, where you are a foreman of a construction team, and you are trying to rebuild a building that was destroyed during a natural disaster before the other foreman does or another disaster strikes.
Graphics/Sound: 8/10
Well considering that this system came out before I was born. The graphics and sound are pretty good, above average at least. I mean you know your in a helicopter, and the storms sound well enough that you know they are storms. So I believe that it deserves an 8/10.
Play Time/Replayability: 6/10
Seeing as it works by a point system. The replay value is rather high, as you try to get better and better scores, but aside from that it takes almost no time to complete. You can dominate this game in thirty minutes, but that's okay it was meant to be short.
Final Recommendation:
I wouldn't think that there is anyone that rents these games anymore. So if you can find definitely buy it, but spend no more than five dollars on it. If you are looking for it try “Ebay” or something like that, because there are not very many copies left.
