Binta (Unknown) 25th Mar 2013 01:09"The most politically incorrect game ever... made in Denmark?"
DISCLAIMER: Before anyone gets angry over me liking this game for being politically incorrect, I'd like to assert that a friend of mine is Persian and he's a good guy. It's just that in today's world of political zealots and people overreacting to things, it's a refreshing change. I was shocked when I first played this game.
Graphics: 6 (Okay)
Other than the smooth animations, everything else is average at best. Nothing really has any spectacular detail or colors, but it's satisfactory for the most part.
Music/Sound: 9 (Great)
The music is nice and fitting, but the voices are what really take the cake. Whenever enemies appear on the screen, they chant all sorts of things in Farsi. Even though I don't know the translation or correct pronunciation, these voices are clear and hilarious.
Controls: 7 (Good)
Although walking around is a little sluggish, the controls are simple and easy to learn. F1 to switch the pistol, F2 to switch to shotgun, F3 to switch to machine gun, Space Bar to set explosive charges. Using elevators may take some getting used to. You press UP to call the lift and enter it, then UP or DOWN to direct it, and hold the FIRE button to get off at the desired floor.
Difficulty: ? (Trial and error)
Actually, this game is more about trial and error rather than skill. Everything (enemies, rooms, items) are in the same location each time. If you play this game without a map or any prior knowledge of it, you're not going to get far. But with a map or at least a decent knowledge of the game, you can breeze through it. Fast reflexes help, but the benefit is marginal.
Gameplay: 8 (Very good)
A side-scrolling exploration adventure. You climb stairs and ladders, use elevators, and walk around as you search for rooms that contain the items and weapons you need to complete you mission. Guards are littered throughout the outpost, and you'll have to fight them. A simple idea but well done. Just beware of running out of ammo, or you'll be completely defenseless.
Story: 8 Very Good
"The year is 1990. The terrorists are holding the world's largest oil reserve at their mercy. By threatening to detonate a nuclear bomb they enforce the world's demands. The world economy is at stake. It is a time for fear. It is the time of terrorism." When the game begins, you are stranded on a raft and make your way to this oil reserve. It's up to you to survive, rescue any hostages along the way, and disarm the bomb for good.
Overall: 9 Great
There's just no way you could make a game like this in today's world, thanks to special interest groups and political zealots. Come to think about it, this game was made in Denmark, the same country where riots and threats broke out in 2005 as a result of a Mr. Muhammad newspaper comic...
Pluses:
+Funny voices!
+Short learning curve
+A great way to vent any tensions toward political correctness
Minuses:
-Success is more about trial and error rather than skill
-Not for the easily offended
Buy? Rent? Throw Away? Or what...
Even if you don't like the actual game, it's still nice to have for the novelty value.
