Wow...this...game...is...addictive! Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is one of the most interesting games out there. It's so addictive and fun, I can't put the controller down for a long time! I rented it first, just to see how good it was, and I wound up playing it for several consecutive hours. I played it so many days in a row, and so many times in a day, that I just had to buy it. Simply put; this game is by far one of the greatest Sonic games I have ever played in my entire life.
Story-10/10
Not only is the story superb and original, but it is double the fun! Sonic Adventure 2: Battle has not one, but two stories! The player can choose from either the Hero or Dark story mode, and can play the other one as soon as they're finished with the other one. The stories also flow at the same pace, and do not stray from the main story-line. There are also some extra twists, such as quick cut-scenes, unlock-ables, and even new bosses! The story is easy to understand as well. Sonic is being blamed for a crime he didn't commit, and the person blaming him is still on the loose. With Knuckles and Tails by his side, Sonic continues to search for the criminal that has caused him grief. However, is opponent is not alone. Teamed up with Rouge, an treasure hunting bat, and Dr. Egg-man, a super-genius, Shadow, the ultimate being, continues to cause chaos throughout the world. The story is very suspenseful, thrilling, and exciting. There is hardly a story like it.
Game-play-10/10
The game-play is straight-forward, and easy to understand. Each character in each story has a different task in each level. Sonic and Shadow are on foot, grinding rails, bowling down enemies, and finding the goal. Knuckles and Rouge have to find 3 shards of the Master Emerald in each level. They may have to dig underground or into walls, fly across to the other monoliths and skyscrapers, or maybe even search the seas below. Tails and Dr. Egg-man ride in their human-shaped machines, and blast their way to the goal, whether they have to hover over ditches, shoot their opponents, or spring into a fatal trap. However, there isn't just story mode. There are multi-player games as well. Also, there is a Chao Garden, where to take care of and raise your own baby Chaos! You can also play two games, Chao Race and Chao Karate, with your chaos against computers and friends to gain cool upgrades and obtain cool items to help your Chaos live happy lives. There is no end to the possibilities in this game, and there is just absolutely no mistakes in the game-play at all.
Graphics-10/10
Where would I ever find better graphics than this game? Although the graphics are 3-dimensional, there isn't any problems with it. Unlike other games, the characters don't fuse with the walls, and the don't blur either. There are no color changes, and the characters look very realistic. There is great detail in the characters, and the backgrounds are just excellent. There are no problems with the graphics, and the greatness of it is just to hard to believe. In the Chao Garden, you can see the individual blades of grass, and the Chao's face expressions make you just want to sigh in that awed voice. I was surprised on how good the graphics are, but that doesn't make them any worse. That just makes it even better than I expected.
Sound-9/10
The sound is good, but not perfect. Sure, the music is fantastic, and I love the shooting sounds and explosions, but the characters don't talk at the same pace their mouth moves. I think that's odd, and that's why it isn't perfect. However, it's good otherwise. There are some really great tunes in this game, and there are hardly any bad sound effects that should be replaced. The music is so good, I may even want to download the music off the Internet, or even get the sound-track (if there is one). The sound isn't perfect, but it still gets a thumbs-up from me.
Controls-10/10
The controls are very easy to understand. The control stick is to move for al characters. For Sonic and Shadow, the A button is to jump, and pressing it again will make you dash at an unbelievable speed. The B button is special powers, upgrade powers, and rolling on the ground as you move. For Knuckles and Rouge, A is to jump, however, A again is to hover. The B button is to punch, and sometimes used for the upgrades. For Tails and Dr. Egg-man, A and A again is to hover, B is to shoot, and sometimes moving around with the B button held locks onto enemies and multiple objects. The characters are easy to move for the most part. The also move with their feet, unlike other games, and you hardly even need the booklet included in order to learn the controls for this game. The controls are limited for each character, making it easy to memorize the moves for each character. The controls are also well thought out, and the creators deserve some credit for making them so easy to understand.
Difficulty-10/10
Boy, was I playing this game for a long time! The difficulty in this game is just awesome. I could hardly wait to play the game each day, and it isn't one of those easy-to-get-through games. This game is actually challenging! It took me forever to complete both stories, and what's more? They have 180 Emblems to collect! The Chao Garden also has special collectibles needed, and the multi-player games may also spit out a few Emblems for you. There are several individual tasks for each level, ranging from the easiest to the hardest. Finally, after all levels are completed, there is a final task; get all A ranks on each mission to get the final 180-th Emblem. Good luck beating this game; you'll need it!
Re-playability-10/10
This game isn't any easier to beat once you begin again. The 180 Emblems are still there, and the Chao Garden will have to be prosperous again in order to get the 9 Emblems included in there. The game isn't much easier, either. The multi-player games are still difficult, the racing is also difficult, and both stories will have to be completed AGAIN! The re-playability level is stunning, and this game will have you playing it for months. If you like difficult games, look out, for this game is for you.
Overall-10/10
This game may not be absolutely perfect, but it is still, overall, a game to remember. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is an excellent game, and may also be one of the best. Everything in this game is great, and I think that the creators of this game really worked hard to put this piece of perfection into the great game area. There are hardly any flaws, and this game just kicks major trees. All I have to say is this; good job!
Rent or Buy?
I'd definitely recommend for you to buy this game. It is a very challenging game, and should last you about six to seven months before your excitement eventually tends to go down a bit, especially because there are still more advanced games coming out, so those will probably catch your attention more than this game. However, if you don't like some games just laying around the house, or just plain don't like Sonic, then even try a rent first, and see if this game is for you. This game is enjoyable, though, and I would highly urge you game-players to buy this game.
