Lemmings is one of those games that is so simply by design, yet never seems to get old. Granted there have been many rip offs, sequels, and updates, but none seemed to ever get it as right as the original Lemmings.

Now you can take the 120 level enjoyment just about anywhere you want to go. Thanks to the kind folks at DMA Design Lynx players will finally be able to enjoy our favorite furry suicidal friends (sorry Kamikaze Squirrel). Guide them to safety with the use of a pop up menu that assigns tasks to your "mindless" Lemmings. Do it right and save enough Lemmings and you will continue on to the next level, letting too many of them die, however, will get you a ticket to "try it again-ville".

As I said there are 120 levels, each offering a very distinct challenge. Some levels are merely digging and climbing, however others will force you to purposely blow up your own character for the betterment of the team. It's touching moments like these, and the thousand little parts he turns into, that makes Lemmings just a enduring game.

On the Lynx the graphics shine, and all the levels are intact (more or less). But instead of an easy interface, we have been given a rather sluggish Pop Up Display. I was a little annoyed at the Pop Up Display at first, as it interfered with the action that is going on (which can be tragic in tight situations), I did get the hang of it, and was able to get around that defect. But overall the game suffers because of that one problem.

The game also feels a little slow. Now don't get me wrong, Lemmings never was a real fast game, but this feels just a little out of tempo. Nonetheless, it doesn't really alter the game play all that much.

In the end Lemmings is a fun game no matter what system it's for. The Lynx version isn't the best on the market, but it's among the best for a portable. It keeps it's high level count, easy to remember passwords, and humor, and that's enough for me to recommend it. Good show.
