"A fun yet interesting old puzzle game"

D/Generation is an isometric puzzle/action game that came out in the early 90's. At first look, it is just a game where you push buttons and walk around, but it is much more...

Gameplay - 9

Let me start off by saying this game is FUN. Once I started playing, it was hard to stop. You job is to deliver a package to a scientist name Derrida. Your character starts out on the 80th floor of a high rise and must work up to the 89th floor. On the way, you have to dodge the security systems and strange biological weapons called ''Generations.'' Most puzzle solving will involve opening and closing doors that block your way by shooting buttons. To add a twist, you can rescue civilians, and each time you do, you get an extra life. You can only save at the beginning of a level, so it is difficult since it would be unwise to reload every time you die.

Sound - 6.5

Only PC speaker on the version I have. The only sounds produced are footsteps, laser shots, and explosions. It's ok at first, but gets annoying after a while, so I just turn it off.

Graphics - 7.5

Not too bad for an old game. The overhead isometric view also makes it easier scan and assess the room you are in. A few scenes are bizarre but have cool waves of colors. Not like your 3D strategy games of today, but the graphics are not bad by a long shot.

Story - 9

You arrive and the place has gone haywire. People and computers you can access on the way describe what has happened and what the strange creatures are. I won't ruin it for you, but near the end, it goes from simply solving puzzles to having a time limit, and if you run out of time, you die. There is also a twist on the last level.

Difficulty - 9

Some rooms in this game are hard, some are easy. None are impossible to complete, but they are difficult enough to have to do again because you die or the civilian you are saving dies.

Control - 8.5

Numeric keypad for movement, space to fire laser. I think it's a good idea for the isometric view. I never had a problem controlling, but if you want to run a different way, sometimes your fingers aren't nimble enough or get in the way.

Replay Value - 7

Since there are secret rooms, you way want to try it again. And you can try to beat a best time record.

Overall - 8

If you find it cheap, definitely pick it up. It's not quite a classic, but it's close to it. Otherwise, if you're not into old games and only play for graphics, stay away.
