Hey!
Hello!
Hi!
High... as in the review score for Chrono Trigger. The game gets a 10 yes, but don't you think it deserves that 19 up there for having to put up with the Final Fantasy series for so long? We have all heard the quotes...
"Chrono Trigger, an Imitation Fantasy"
"The Rosie O'Donnel of RPGs, in the age of Fantasy!"
"I think I am going to take one point off of everything in this game because it isn't a FF game."
Well? We've all seen 'em! We're all sick of 'em! AHHHH! Here is an honest, practical, UNBIASED, and just plain old lip smackin' good review. I think this review will be the longest most detailed review you have ever read, hopefully anyway. Go out and buy the game and you will see why this game gets a 19 score.
(10/10) Artwork
The artwork in this game was done by the mastermind who creates the artwork for Dragon Ball Z series, that is presently on Cartoon Network. His sketches for Chrono Trigger are even a better display than his work with Dragon Ball Z. His work is dumbfounding, and unlike in most RPGs, the characters in his artwork actually look like they do in the game. Anyway Chrono Trigger is like a work of art on its own. In any RPG the artwork is just one of the many parts. Some people say an RPG with good artwork will be a good RPG. At least for Chrono Trigger that is true. Chrono Trigger has some of the best artwork in any RPG if not the best. The artwork, and the game wind together to create a masterpiece of RPG art.
Sound (10/10)
The Composition in this game, created by Yosonori Metsuda is absolutely incredible. Some people say that it is the most splendid thing in the game. I don't agree, I think everything in the game ties for being perfect. that includes Yosonori's compositions. This game should be the model for RPGs not Final Fantasy. Onto the other argument about the game. The Sound Effects. Some people don't like 'em, and I know why, because they are what i like to call "FINAL FANTASY NERDS"! Or maybe they are paying so much attention to the great music that they aren't noticing how good the sound effects are. As a matter of fact, if they sold a CD of just sound effects for this game, heck I'd buy it! Some of the feature songs for this game that people love are the Zeal Palace Theme, Underwater Theme, Schala Theme, Frog Theme, and they seem to love a whole lot of other themes, OH AND THIS GAME HAS THE BEST FINAL BATTLE MUSIC IN THE HISTORY OF RPGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Character Development (10/10)
This game has 7 characters with 7 different personalities. It's a little to easy to fall in love with some of the characters. People will like Chrono, Nerds and smarts will love Lucca, and everybody will awe themselves with deep characters. Oh, you say you don't believe me? Well then I will just have to give you all of the examples of Character development in this RPG.
(Chrono) In this game you take on the role of Chrono. You sometimes feel like you are him. He fits into this game so well, that sometimes you don't even pay attention to him. (that's the truth). Instead he is your key to exploring the world of Chrono Trigger. Playing Chrono Trigger is like riding a wave. up, and down. I'ts perfect
(Marle) Marle has quite a bit of development believe it or not. She has to deal with her father and the game will show her fighting with her father the King of Guardia. She can't stand his expectations of her. She hates royal stereotypes, and when she joins your party, she really tries not to be called "your majesty" or other terms associated with her ancestry.
(Lucca) Lucca is Chrono's very scientific friend, who wears a very cool head device, and wears cool red glasses, thick, goofy, red glasses. It's funny how Speikko makes fun of her glasses at the point where you reach the end of time. Endless laughter. Her science is something that she struggles with in her mind. After all, it is her and her father Taban's science that took her mother's legs. There is sort of a time/ flashback, that takes her back to her childhood when her mother is in this grave situation. She is about to be pulled in by a lever into this crushing machine that Lucca and her dad created. Only, the portal that might have been created by Lavos, will allow her to change her mother's fate. Also she has a pity for all robots. quote "Machines aren't capable of evil, people make them that way."
I could go on and on and on..................... But I think that you get the picture that all of Chrono Trigger's Characters have either some kind of significance, or development.
Quotation (10/10)
Most of us will pass by all of the things people say in an RPG. Most reviewers don't even rate them. But In Chrono Trigger, you might take them for granted, but they are the best ever. The characters say unbelievable things. Even minor characters say truly amazing things. I got the idea about rating quotes from a quote site, and another review for Chrono Trigger. They are Truly amazing.
Battles (10/10)
The battles in Chrono Trigger are so fun. Unlike in Final Fantasy VI, you are allowed to have some major fun and experimenting in battles. No matter how many times you play through the game, you can probably always still uncover new TECHS. It is so cool throwing different groups of characters together and learning new dual and tripletech abilities. Also the battles are very fast moving especially when you gain more speed. People say that it has that same meter that Final Fantasy games have, but the only difference is that the speed changes as you recieve tabs or equip certain things. There is a thing that you can equip that makes it go twice as fast that really makes battles fun and fast. The battles can range from 30 seconds on up. Maybe even less.
Replay (10/10)
The new game plus options, the speed of play, and the multiple endings add up for the greatest replay value in any game ofany genre. Out of your entire collection of games, would you be able to play one of them 10 or 11 times through? Especially one of your RPGS? I doubt, and if you do than you are probably obsessed unreasonably with that game. Just kidding. Almost everybody can play through Chrono Trigger at least 5 times without saying, "O.k, that's enough." Most people will prefer to experience all the endings in completely different games, than trying to access all 14 or so in one game. So heck it's got the best replay value, are you still saying "INAL FANTASY IS BETTER"? You know, thinking that FF games are the best, is dangerous according to the surgeon general.
Graphics (10/10)
In 50 years or so people will still say Chrono Trigger has good graphics. It is just as good and better as most PLaystation games. chrono Trigger as I said is a work of art, that's what I meant. You don't call Chrono Trigger's graphics anything but flawless. The worldmaps are just as beautiful. And honestly most world maps in an RPG are just sucky. FF1, FF2, FF3, FF4, FF5, FF6, FF7, Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire II, all of these games have bad world maps. Chrono Trigger in fact is the only RPG that has actually had good world maps. Also Chrono Trigger doesn't have frustrating pop up battles on the world map, in fact it doesn't even have pop up battles. NO FRUSTRATION! none! I love the world map in this game. It makes getting around fun.
Story (10/10)
The story in this game is so great that it will make you biteyour tongue. The story and character development together make an awesome team in Chrono Trigger. The story is about this creature Lavos, who travles from world to world draining all of the planet's energy and life to live. It breeds "spawn" life that you see in the game on other planets. The people of your world, especially in the advanced time of 1200 A.D., abuse the power of Lavos. in 1200 A.D. there is a floating Kingdom known as Zeal, the people there grow dependent upon the power of lavos, this eventually leads them to their death. Schala a resident of Zeal, gives up her life to save you, and your friends, a very powerful and great story. Anyone who underestimates the story for this game should carefully look at the story a 2nd time, and see what they missed out on.
Control (10/10)
Chrono Trigger is the pinacle of control in an RPG. that's all i can say it's friggin' perfect like everything else.
Overall (19/10)
Chrono Trigger is the best RPG/game ever made. If you think my review is biased, than that's o.k. I wrote this review fairly and honestly. I don't want to bash FF6 too much, it is a great game, but in my opinion people do not need to say that it is better than Chrono Trigger or other games. I see this stated in many other reviews. Thankyou for taking the time to read this review.
