"Although the graphics are ridiculously poor, the game is surprisingly enjoyable."

Home Alone is one of the first GameGear games to be based on a movie, and very surprisingly, it is actually a decent game. Licensed games for the GameGear usually tended to be really bad, but this one isn't and is arguably the best Home Alone game ever made.

Gameplay 8/10
The meat of any game, and oddly enough, it's the only thing that Home Alone does well. So what is this game all about? In a nutshell, your task is to protect the town from Marv and Harry. They'll randomly go from house to house, raiding them one by one for loot, and your job is set traps in the houses, and fight them off head on with custom weapons. That's right, you can not only set traps in all the houses, but you actually make your own weapons, and that's the best part of the game.

You'll begin the game on a sleigh, and here you can collect items (traps, and parts for your custom weapons) by running over Snowmen and other items scattered throughout the map. Marv and Harry will eventually come in their blue van, and stop at one of the many houses. It is therefore a good idea to set up traps in all the houses before they reach them, to slow them down. Regardless however, the traps alone cannot defeat them, and you'll have to fight them.

Now, once inside a house, the game plays like a 2d side-scroller, and each house is unique in its own way. Your job once inside, is to annoy Marv and Harry enough before they raid the whole place. If you ever get caught, you don't die, but instead lose a lot of time, allowing them to raid more of the house. If a house is raided, it is taken out of the game. You will lose once all the houses in the town are raided. You win if you are continuously able to stop Marv and Harry.

The game has no story mode, and there is only a Normal and Hard mode of this.

Graphics 6/10
Overall, the graphics stink, there's no denying it. However, it still remains fun to fire at Marv and Harry with your custom weapons, as there are some funny animations. Fire at them with your snowball gun, and they turn into snowmen temporarily. Fire at them with your pepper gun, and they'll start sneezing. It's all in good fun.

Sound 6/10
The sounds and music in this game are pretty poor in my opinion. Nothing memorable.

Final Verdict 8/10
The lasting value for this game isn't too high, but it's still worth a playthrough if you have spare time and can find it for cheap. I have played most of the games on this handheld, and this is actually one of the better games on the GameGear believe it or not.
